Jon B. Gandelot is Senior Counsel and director of the Estate Planning and Trust Administration department of Trowbridge Law Firm, P.C. The firm is located in the Historic Charles C. Trowbridge House, built in 1826. It is the oldest building in the City of Detroit. Mr. Gandelot was instrumental in purchasing and restoring the Trowbridge House in the early 1980’s.Mr. Gandelot’s expertise is in the area of Estate Planning and Estate Administration. He tailors his planning advice to each client’s specific goals and objectives. Over his many years of estate planning he has counseled many clients concerning business succession, family dynamics and the impact and tax consequences of intergenerational estate planning. He frequently makes use of Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Charitable Remainder and Charitable Lead Trusts, Family Limited Liability companies and other techniques to fit his client’s needs. He also uses General Durable Powers of Attorney, Pour-Over Wills, Directions for Health Care, Funeral Representative Designations and Distributions of Personal Property documents, to round out a complete estate plan.

Mr. Gandelot’s also has many years of experience in Estate Administration and post-death estate planning. His experience helps him to guide family members upon the incapacity or death of a loved one. He advises fiduciaries (successor trustees, agents under powers of attorney and patient advocates) of their duties and responsibilities in the administration of both probate and non-probate estate administrations, guardianships and conservatorships.

Mr. Gandelot obtained his B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1966 and his Juris Doctorate degree for the Wayne State University School of Law in 1969. He has taught hundreds of financial planners, insurances professionals and accountants in courses on estate planning and trust administration. He has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1969. He is also a member of Wealth Counsel, an estate planning collaborative of attorneys in all 50 states; and of e-Planners Educational Alliance, a by-invitation, non-profit educational organization of prominent tax, estate, trust and business attorneys from around the United States.

Jon served on the Grosse Pointe Board of Education for 12 years, including 5 terms as Board President. An active member of Grosse Pointe Rotary, he served as President in 2014-15. He has also led the University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit as President. Jon and his wife, Lisa Mower Gandelot, are members of Grosse Pointe Memorial (Presbyterian) Church.
